Tips for strengthening your mix, mix belt and extending your chest belt

The ever elusive 'mix' and 'belt' - how does one work on improving those, or even accessing them? With some exercises like those below, that's how!

1.) Try not to smile or widen your mouth.
2.) Work on releasing tongue tension by singing with your tongue forward in your mouth.
3.) Don't be afraid of creating an 'ugly' or 'bratty' sound - it really thickens the sound.
4.) A little bit of acting helps. You want to use a 'call' - imagine you are trying to make yourself heard across a noisy room or road.
5.) Exercises with the sound 'y' are great because they have a high tongue.
6.) Focus on the sound being behind the bridge of your nose.
